On Starting Over

1911

As I was sent from Canada and was a citizen of Canada, naturally we went to Canada. I left my good chance to go into the sheep business and went on my Mission, and Mr. Harvey would have given me the same chance when I came back from my Mission, but I had not been here very long before my wife got so homesick that she asked me to take her back to Salt Lake City or Magna where her relatives were. To please my new married wife I took her back to Magna where our first son was born on February 27. We named him William Delos.

I went back to Canada, the wife brought out little son with her, and came later on. Now is the time I needed my good home and farm I gave Katherine, and I went empty handed. I simply now had to start over again and herd sheep again as I had no place to be and no job. My good wife went with me for a little while to the sheep camp, on the Canadian prairie which was not a good place for a woman, but she did not like to be alone.

My people were well located in Aetna. They had good homes and farms, and I had my new wife only empty handed. It surely was a hard thing to go through. I rented a house in Aetna and stayed a while and along came our second son, on Sept. 29, 1912. Albert Tex was his name.

There was not much going on in Aetna, I did the best I could after the circumstance but to get Annie satisfied in Canada was more than I could do. Of course I thought more of my wife than I did of Canada.
