On Children

1919

This is the year that the Lord blessed us with another fine son, born the 26 of March in Salt Lake City. We named him Melvin.

I understand according to the plan of God that children are the greatest blessing bestowed on mortal man.

I loved my own home and farm, and its equipment, but the real equipment in a home is children. The scriptures say that blessed in the man that has his house full of them. I understand that everything served them for good that love the Lord.

This appointment comes many ways but the Gospel brings no disappointments. The Lord is true to His promises.

We belonged to the Miller Stake in 1921. At this time we were blessed with another baby son. He was born alive but did not live but a little after birth. He was named after his grandfather, Hans Christian, born 25 of April. He was brought to the Salt Lake Cemetery and buried there. This was the first death in our family. We must say like Job, ‘The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away and honor and glory be to the name of the Lord. Some live till old, and some are taken away young.’ I always look at the bright side of things, and believe there is a certain time set for us all.
